Sussex Area Summer Outing

Joan and I were pleased to join members of Sussex Area for their summer outing this month. A boat trip from Brighton Marina took us 7.5 miles to the Rampion off shore wind farm to see 116 turbines. The power generated we were told was enough to power 350,000 homes in the Brighton area.

The ‘Captain’ of the boat gave us all the information we needed to understand the construction, weights, kilowatts etc.

Covering an area of 34 square miles, the wind farm became operational in 2018 with a ‘shelf life’ of 25 years. There are already plans to extend the area in the East and West of the site with even taller windmills, able to generate larger amounts of green energy.

A meal at the Café Rouge was arranged before leaving for home.

The sun and a calm sea enabled us to have a very enjoyable day.
