  1. Clifton Bridge, Bristol ↩︎

The area was originally formed in the erly 1070’s as the Brostol and West Area, but became recognised in 1975. One of the founder members was Terry Clarke, who movewd to the West Country from London, Terry served the Area in the capaicity of Area Secretary for 16 years and was Area Chairman on two ocassions. As well as the first Bristol member to hold the office of National Chairman, he was elected a National Life Member in 1991.

Monthly meetings became the norm and were held at various locations around the Bristol area. One such venue was in Keynsham, an area of Bristol made fsamouse by the late Horace Batchelor of football pools fame. Over the years, guest speakers have entertained us and at one such meeting the mebers leaarned how to fly a Harrier Jump Jet aeroplane.

In 1978, the area held its first Black Tie Ladies’ Evening and has continued to do so every year – except COVD -since. In 1980’s and 1990’s Gentlemen’s Black Tie Boxing dinners were held featuring a hearty meal followed by bouts of amateur boxing. The evening was completed by a cabaret featuring a well know TV comedian of the day.

The area has supported all other area’s functions over the years and many friendships made.
