Sussex Area Summer Outing

On Sunday the 16th August, the area held its annual summer outing. Members and friends met at Sheffield Park Railway station for a leisurely trip on a diesel hauled preserved set of carriages to East Grinstead. The eleven mile journey through the Sussex countryside was originally part of the Lewes and East Grinstead line which opened in 1882.  Sadly, no steam engines were being operated due to risk of line side fires.  After a short break, we made the return journey back to Sheffield Park.

After the train journey we all made our way to the Bolney Stage Pub near Haywards Heath for a meal together. The number of menu choices and the quality of the food is something I will remember for a long time to come. Small portions don’t seem the norm here but everybody tucked in to their menu choice and clean plates followed.

Our thanks to Dickie and Di for organising the day and to the members of Sussex Area for making Joan and I so welcome as always.
