Bristol Area

Monthly meetings became the norm and were held at various locations around the Bristol area. One such venue was in Keynsham, an area of Bristol made famous by the late Horace Batchelor of football pools fame. Over the years, guest speakers have entertained us and at one such meeting the members leaarned how to fly a Harrier Jump Jet aeroplane.

In 1978, the area held its first Black Tie Ladies’ Evening and has continued to do so every year – except COVID -since. In 1980’s and 1990’s Gentlemen’s Black Tie Boxing dinners were held featuring a hearty meal followed by bouts of amateur boxing. The evening was completed by a cabaret featuring a well know TV comedian of the day.

In 1999 it became apparent that these events had run there course and that year’s dinner was cancelled.

As the youngest area of the national organisation and the smallest membership – maximum of 40 – we have moved our monthly meeting venues to be nearer where the majority travel from. To date that has been 28 different pubs around Bristol. We are now meeting in Newport at venue 29 and have a membership of 5.

The area has supported all other area’s  over the years and many friendships made.
