The area was formed in 1964 by a group of transport managers who had previously been travelling to Newcastle Area, thus saving time and expense.
Monthly meetings were held at The Billingham Arms Hotel for most of the years after the areas formation. These meetings were dinner and included a Guest speaker from the trade.
During the year, social events were held, also at The Billingham Arms, as well as the annual ‘Black Tie’ Ladies’ Evenings and Christmas parties. These functions were always well attended and supported by guests from other areas.
